adapting to chaos – Harold Jarche

I’m discovering it tough to write down right here today. And I’ve written a good bit as that is publish #3,685. Given the turmoil with our American neighbours it’s arduous to deal with a lot else. Simply in my skilled networks on each side of the border I personally know individuals who have misplaced their jobs, their shoppers, and any skill to plan for the close to future — all up to now month.

I must be writing a guide. I also have a writer. However I gained’t. No less than not presently. Most of my pondering time is concentrated on the aggressive behaviour of our once-ally, the US, and the continual threats to our sovereignty. The truth that Trump was re-elected nonetheless shocks me. It reveals how flawed the US electoral system is, and I do know that now we have sufficient of our personal flaws right here in Canada. I spent most of my preliminary profession as an Infantry officer, coaching to struggle the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies. Evidently my later years in life could also be preventing, no less than economically, the Russian regime and the American administration that helps it.

Considered one of my skilled areas of curiosity is sensemaking, individually and collectively. It’s the focus of my PKM workshop which is at the moment in its second week with a world cohort. It’s good to no less than have one thing to deal with that’s not political. With PKM I promote using the Cynefin framework and have centered on coping with complexity and the way to function with a Probe > Sense > Reply strategy. Our present state of nationwide and worldwide affairs has shifted into the Chaotic area which requires extra of an Act > Sense > Reply strategy. Act first, after which see what occurs to make sense of it. After I rise up within the morning today I fairly nicely begin in a confused state.

So I’m asking myself and any readers — what modifications in our sensemaking practices ought to we incorporate to adapt to a world that’s typically extra chaotic than complicated?

Subsequent: a brand new understanding of my confusion
